Southern Poverty Law Center Adds Raif Badawi to Anti-Muslim Extremist List

Montgomery, Alabama – September 15, 2023

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has added Raif Badawi to their Anti-Muslim Extremist List.  Raif Badawi is a former Saudi blogger who repeatedly engaged in “insulting Islam through electronic channels”, according to the Saudi government, for which he was imprisoned for a decade and suffered brutal lashings.  Some of Raif Badawi’s horrifically insensitive comments include, “Look at what had happened after the European peoples succeeded in removing the clergy from public life and restricting them to their churches. They built up human beings and (promoted) enlightenment, creativity and rebellion. States which are based on religion confine their people in the circle of faith and fear.” and “As soon as a thinker starts to reveal his ideas, you will find hundreds of fatwas that accused him of being an infidel just because he had the courage to discuss some sacred topics“.

– Hate speech spewed by Raif Badawi

Upon being released from prison and migrating to Canada to join his family, Raif continued his racist, bigoted tirades, saying that he preferred life in Western countries to being imprisoned and flogged to a bloody pulp in his home country.  This most recent remark was the last straw, which got the SPLC to put him on the list of Anti-Muslim Extremists.  Because of this designation, Canada is considering deporting him back to Saudi Arabia so he can answer for his crimes…again.
